“Not all those who wander are lost.” – 23rd November – 29th November

I posted this video but I thought I would repost and divulge more into what makes me tick and the way I think.

I do often wonder if depression is a disease inherited from genes or just something we all go through. A patch. A blimp in day to day happiness.

For me, honestly, there are days where I really don’t want to get out of bed and face the day ahead. There are times when I’m ready to roll and excited. These sway day to day, week to week, month to month. Sometimes I feel rock bottom for very little rhyme or reason. Other times I feel like I’m on top of the world. Fortunately, I find that running keeps me focused on positives. It helps to focus on all the things that make me a better person.

The more ultras I run, the more I begin to realise that an ultra is a microcosm of day to day life. From the excitement of the beginning, the trials of mental and physical ability, to that reward of getting through.

Ultras hone us in on all that is great with our own achievement but the pains of getting there.

Someone asked me recently why I like the longer distances. Why I bother. Why I would put myself through them. My answer is I don’t know. All I know is that for a long time after I feel better. I feel like a better version of me. I feel happy.

Issues with the ITB have put me back on the drawing board and talking to Andy about the best steps forward. With two weeks till TNF50 – this is looking unlikely. We shall see though.
